complementary minds vol.1

The very first release of its catalogue, a stunning LP by the two founders Luca and Michele (aka Complementary Minds) called Butch Haynes introduces Complementary Minds Vol. 1. The newborn label launches its ambitious, yet very much considered project, after the debut of one of the two head-honchos Luca Ferrara aka Butch Haynes on Apparel Music and Sistrum Recordings. He metaphorically introduces the first LP by the Milan born and bred duo, who share a deep love for music and a great productive connection. They deliver a brilliant eleven-track album, full of diversified sonic influences and quite representative of their bright talent.

The record, which will be presented to you both on vinyl and digital, starts with a couple of masterly produced beats (Fantastic/Teacher Carey), both with an analogous mellow, warm energy, some brilliantly crafted bass-lines and a substantial harmonic presence. The album keeps rolling with the Deep feeling of Flower Diva: its soulful, skilfully arranged vocals and the dreamy synthetic chords help the pair to perpetuate this passionate, balmy vibe. Insomnia ends the first quartet of sexy tunes with some seductive improvised spacey key stabs and its delicate pensive chords while Q Orchestra (the lost tape mix) speeds up the heartbeat and leads to the closing track of the A side, Bebi: a gorgeous groovy interlude.

B side kicks off in style with the slightly darker feel of Myers Boogyeman where the pitched sampled vocals, the solid rhythm section, a profound array of sonic details and a marvellous warm synth melody towards the end of the track make it a true ghetto hit! Right On, with its broken-beat and a radiant harmonic progression, Contact 911 with its tight kick-snare connection and some far-out, whimsical chord evolution and G Buster with its irresistible slightly acid driving force, pave the way for the grand finale where Maam, a proper club banger, ends this amazing LP in epic fashion. Butch Haynes introduces Complementary Minds Vol. 1. is such a cohesive, yet incredibly diversified album and their authors, Luca Ferrara and Michele Fallabrino, achieve the challenging task of telling their sonic story with a flawless work.

complementary minds vol.2

We last left off with Complementary Minds dropping singles and EPs to keep telling their musical story. But now, we're hyped to present their new album, the second one, Complementary Minds Vol 2 (inevitably out on vinyl and of course on digital versions), it's picking up right where the first one left off and just like that one, it’s out on their label, Terapia Records. Complementary Minds Vol.2 is, as the duo has been treating us to lately, a subtle yet striking evolution from the first chapter of what, and we’re telling you this exclusively, will be a trilogy. The tracks are a mix of influences from all sorts of genres like Hip-Hop, Breakbeat, Electro, House, Acid Jazz and much more. But the compositional style here is more mature, even more aware and refined, less raw than the first album, which showcased their creative talent in an instinctive way. This is a big step in the musical maturity of Luca and Michele. As usual, they flaunt their passion for movies by stuffing the tracks with film references in the form of samples that we challenge you to find, giving you just a few hints: you'll find samples from The Goonies in “Goonietown", Natural Born Killers in "Born Dead” and even Fantozzi Contro Tutti, a wild obsession of our very own Luca, in the track "Rmx & Chips”! Continuing from the first album, the tracks on what should be the first side are named starting with C, so the second side is the D side, kicking off with “Goonietown" and its absolutely smashing four-on-the-floor groove. The dark and brooding mystical energy of "Kim Darkness" takes us into a different sound dimension, from which we inevitably emerge with the fresh vibes of the airy "Hey" and the mellow "Born Dead" before diving into the rhythmic coolness of "Rmx & Chips” which put the END word on the first side. D side starts with “King Of Korea” and its harmonic electro touch which perfectly sets up the following track, the short but intense "M-Time" and the esoteric crypticism of “Damn”. The breathless sprint of Complementary Minds sees the finish line approaching, but not before tackling the sonic leaps of a world crafted by their vintage touch and the late '80s rhythmic evolutions of the ruggedly classy "Explorer '85". “Ambient Kontakt” anticipates the 9th inning of this record with a touch of healthy weirdness, a must by the pair, and sets the stage for the fleeting and dreamy outro of the spacey "O" Omega for the Greek scholars, symbolizing the end, the final letter of the alphabet. The tune is inspired to Jerry Goldsmith’s majestic soundtracks; he composed, amongst others, the music for Alien and Rambo. Here's what you need to know before diving into the listening experience of Complementary Minds Vol.2 by the duo Complementary Minds, out on Terapia Records. As always, they send their regards from Milan and invite you to keep your eyes peeled and your ears open for the final chapter of the trilogy!

MAAM
(EXTENDED PIANO VERSION)

Prepare to embark on a sonic journey as Terapia Records proudly introduces the latest release from the dynamic electronic duo.

This nine-minute masterpiece which is, as the title itself says, the extended version of the closing track of the pair's first LP (Complementary Minds - Vol.1) issued in early 2023, is set to captivate audiences with its innovative blend of electronic elements, a solid rhythm section, mesmerising samples and infectious vocals. Complementary Minds, known for their boundary-pushing approach to electronic music, have crafted a sonic experience that transcends genres. "Maam (Extended Piano Version)" seamlessly fuses electronic beats with a masterly layered arrangement, creating a harmonious balance between the synthetic and the organic. At the core of "Maam" is a pulsating rhythm section that drives the track forward, creating an irresistible groove that will move both hearts and feet. The carefully curated samples add layers of complexity, taking the audience on a sonic exploration filled with unexpected twists and turns. The extended duration of "Maam" allows the duo to fully unfold their sonic narrative, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in the rich textures and evolving soundscapes. Each minute is a carefully crafted evolution, building anticipation and delivering a cathartic release that will leave a lasting impression.

The Nintendo Game Boy, an iconic relic from the past and source of the main 8bit sample of the track itself (taken from one of its most relevant video games), dominates the digital cover. Its sleek, grayish-black body contrasts with the vivid distinctive colours of Complementary Minds' logo, creating a striking focal point. Terapia Records is excited to present this cutting-edge release, which is not just a track but a truly immersive experience.

searching for a voice

The Milanese pair of producers Complementary Minds is back at it with a new, compelling digital LP called ‘Searching For A Voice’.

The records takes its title from the vast, infinite research that brought Mitch and Luca to sample, in their studio, from the most recondite and rare vinyl records, until realizing that all the tracks they were producing were lacking vocals. That’s when the unconscious hunt became the concept behind the making-of the album. All six brilliant tracks feature some of CM’s most prominent virtues such as the careful craftsmanship and the extreme attention they put into the sound research, the rhythm sections and the layering of each musical component, making their latest work another stunning display of their talent.
